Evangeline Parish weekly baseball roundup
The following are game summaries for baseball games played this past week by the parish baseball teams.
Mamou
vs. Lake Arthur
The Mamou Demons took to the diamond on Tuesday to face off against the Lake Arthur Tigers in a district 4-2A contest. Mamou came into the game with an even 2-2 district record. The Demons needed a win to keep pace with league leader Kinder High School. Mamou stayed on pace by running away with a 16-6 victory over the Tigers.
The Demons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead at the end of one complete inning of play. Neither squad managed to plate a run in the second inning. Offense was the name of the game in the third inning. Mamou notched three runs in the top half of the inning, while Lake Arthur answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the Demons up 5-2.
Each team’s offense continued to plate runs in the fourth inning, as both Mamou and Lake Arthur were able to put three runs across. The Demons continued with the hot bats in the fifth inning, scoring another four runs. The seventh inning was a repeat for Mamou, with the Demons adding another four runs. With the score 16-5, the Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the seventh. However, Mamou quelled the Lake Arthur momentum to take the win.
Austin Fontenot earned the win on the mound, throwing seven complete innings. Fontenot allowed six runs on five hits, struck out three and walked five. Dylan Duplechin led all Demon hitters going four for five with a double and a home run.
Duplechin also scored four runs and recorded three runs batted in. Chris Pitre and Jude Fontenot were both three for three in the game. Pitre scored four runs and had two runs batted in. Fontenot drove in four runs and scored a run. Mamou improves to 5-12 on the year and 3-2 in district with the win.
Sacred Heart
vs. False River
The Sacred Heart Trojans traveled to New Roads on Thursday to take on the False River Academy Gators for the second time this week. Thursday’s game was a district 5-1A contest. The Trojans came into the contest undefeated in district play. Sacred Heart continued that unblemished record by blasting the Gators 13-0. With the win, the Trojans are now 20-2 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in district.
Sacred Heart picked up two runs in the first and one in the third to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Trojans then exploded on offense in the fourth inning for five unanswered runs. Another run in the fifth gave Sacred Heart a nine run advantage. The seventh inning saw another barrage at the plate for the Trojans, as they plated another four runs.
Caleb Soileau garnered the win, throwing five complete innings. Soileau struck out three, walked two and gave up only four hits. Jacob A. Lafleur pitched two relief innings. Lafleur allowed zero hits in his appearance. Brandon Hudspeth led all hitters going three for five with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Jacob L. Lafleur was three for four with two runs batted in. Keaton Tate, Nick Lahaye, Ben Bergeron and Phillip Vidrine all collected two hits in the win.
Mamou vs. Kinder
In a district 4-2A contest on Thursday, the Mamou Demons traveled to Kinder to take on the Yellow Jackets. The Demons only managed one hit in a 2-0 loss to Kinder. Mamou drops to 5-14 on the year and 3-3 in district with the loss. Kinder scored in the bottom of the first and second innings to take the win. Hunter Fusilier picked up the loss on the mound, throwing six complete innings. Fusilier gave up two runs on four hits while striking out three. Tanner Rougeau was one for three at the plate to earn the only Demon hit.
Pine Prairie
vs. Northwest
A district 5-3A win was on the line Thursday as the Pine Prairie Panthers traveled to Prairie Rhonde to face off against the Northwest Raiders. The Panthers scored multiple runs in three of the seven innings to take the 6-3 win over the Raiders. Pine Prairie runs their overall record to 13-7 and 4-2 in district with the win.
Pine Prairie and Northwest both got on the board in the first inning, as the Panthers plated two runs, while the Raiders managed a single run. Northwest took the 3-2 lead, after adding a single run in the bottom of the third. Not to be outdone, Pine Prairie collected two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the victory.
J.T. Joubert earned the win on the mound, throwing seven complete innings. Joubert allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking three. Both Joubert and Sylus Carson were two for four at the plate. Gaten Chaddrick was one for three with a run scored and two runs batted in.
