Girls Basketball
Ville Platte
vs. Rapides
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs finished off the Rapides Tournament by destroying the host team 75-27. Ville Platte dominated the game from the start as they outscored the Lady Mustangs 17-5 in the opening period. The Lady Bulldogs doubled their score in the second quarter, taking a 34-12 half time lead.
The third stanza saw Ville Platte score 18 points and hold Rapides to seven, for a 52-19 lead. The Lady Bulldogs added 23 more points and hold the Lady Mustangs to only eight points to close out the game.
Leading the way for Ville Platte was Deja McKinney, who tallied 17 points. Miya McKinney added 14 points, while Tyreonna Doucet chipped in 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs made five three-point field goals in the win.
Boys Basketball
Pine Prairie
vs. Avoyelles
Homecoming is always a time for celebration. For Pine Prairie a 78-66 victory over the Avoyelles Mustangs gave the Panthers something to really celebrate. The Panthers took a 23-12 first quarter lead and rode the momentum for the rest of the game. Pine Prairie outscored Avoyelles 15-8 in the second stanza to lead 38-20 at the half.
The Mustangs outpaced the Panthers in the third period outscoring Pine Prairie 20-16. However, Avoyelles could only manage to gain a two point advantage in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers held their lead for the victory.
For the Panthers, three players scored in double digits. Javon Ardoin, Douglas Fontenot and Allen Myles chipped in 14, 13 and 12 points respectively. Leading the way for the Avoyelles Mustangs was Miguel Collins who scored 20 points.
Ville Platte
vs. Rapides
The Ville Platte Bulldogs took on the Rapides Mustangs in the Rapides tournament on Saturday and came away on the losing end of a 72-69 contest. Ville Platte took a commanding 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 38-33 at halftime.
In the third quarter Rapides closed the gap to 52-51. The fourth period belonged to the Mustangs as they outscored the Bulldogs 21-17 in closing out the victory.
Ernest Ardoin and Darren Poullard each chipped in 12 points for Ville Platte in the contest. Brandon Domminck added 11 points for the Bulldogs. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Chauncey Tibbs who scored 18 points in the winning effort.
Ville Platte
vs. Opelousas
On Monday the Ville Platte Bulldogs travelled to Opelousas to take on the Opelousas High School Tigers in tournament play. Opelousas jumped out to a commanding 26-9 lead over Ville Platte after the end of one period of play. The Tigers continued to outscore the Bulldogs in the second quarter and lead 45-30 going into halftime.
Ville Platte cut the deficit in the third stanza and only trailed 60-53 at the end of the quarter. However, Opelousas outpaced Ville Platte in the final period, outscoring the Bulldogs 16-14 to seal the victory.
Leading scorer for Ville Platte was Alex Gooden who netted 24 points on the night. Ernest Ardoin tacked on another 15 points for the Bulldogs. Isaiah Rollan led all Tiger players with 19 points.
Ville Platte
vs. Northwest
Ville Platte returned to Opelousas on Tuesday to face the Northwest Raiders in tournament play. The Bulldogs came away with a hard earned 71-64 victory. Northwest took the early 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but a 17-9 run put Ville Platte up 30-23 at halftime.
The Bulldogs outscored the Raiders 21-20 in the third period to lead 51-43. Ville Platte closed out the game with a 20-19 advantage in the fourth period.
Leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Keilan Semien and Martin Jason who netted 15 and 13 points respectively.
