Evangeline Parish weekly softball round-up

The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish softball teams.
Pine Prairie vs.
Northwest (game 1)
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers continued district play by hosting a doubleheader with the Northwest Lady Raiders. Pine Prairie had no trouble in game one against Northwest, taking care of the Lady Raiders 16-1 in three innings of play. Ten Lady Panthers crossed the plate in the first inning. Another six runs were scored by Pine Prairie in the second inning. Northwest did manage one run in the top of the third, but the 15 run rule came into effect, which meant that the Lady Panthers did not have to bat in the third. Almost all Pine Prairie’s runs came off of walks. Sabrina Fontenot earned the win, allowing the one run on no hits, and struck out one.

Northwest (game 2)
In game two, the Lady Panthers scored 22 runs in the first inning to route Northwest 31-0. Pine Prairie only picked up six hits in the game, because most of their runs came off of walks. The Lady Panthers plated another nine runs in the second, 15 run ruling the Lady Raiders after the top of the third. With the two wins in the doubleheader, the Lady Panthers are now 9-4 on the season and 4-0 in district 5-3A.
Sacred Heart
vs. Bunkie
On Monday, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans hosted the Lady Panthers of Bunkie High School. Sacred Heart scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the second in route to a 4-2 win. Bunkie collected both of their runs in the top of the third, but were shut down the rest of the way by Elizabeth Soileau. Soileau earned the win on the hill, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out nine. Courtney Vidrine, Baylee Veillon and Caroline Fontenot were all two for three to lead the Lady Trojans at the plate.
Mamou vs. Kinder
The Lady Demons hosted the Kinder Lady Jackets on Tuesday in a district contest. Mamou plated four runs in the third inning to propel themselves to a 6-4 win. The Lady Demons trailed 3-1 after two innings of play, before pulling ahead in the third. Mamou added an insurance run in the fourth and blanked Kinder the rest of the way to hold on to the win. Amber Manuel was the winning pitcher, throwing seven completed innings. Manuel allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out eight and walked three. Manuel also led all hitters, going three for four with three runs scored. Kelsie Mayeaux went two for three with a run batted in.
