Evangeline Parish weekly softball roundup

The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish baseball teams.

Sacred Heart
vs. Westminster

The Lady Trojans met the Westminster Lady Crusaders on the softball diamond Wednesday in Opelousas. Sacred Heart jumped out to an early lead but could not hang on in an 11-5 loss. The Lady Trojans were up 5-1 after two innings, but Westminster rallied to score 10 runs in the last two innings, including seven runs in the fifth, to seal the win.
Baylee Veillon suffered the loss, throwing two innings, allowing eight runs on twelve hits. Kara Aguillard and Caroline Fontenot were both two for four at the plate to lead Sacred Heart. Both players scored a run and collected a run batted in. With the loss, the Lady Trojans fall to 7-4 on the year.

Mamou vs. Vinton

Mamou squared off against Vinton on Tuesday in a district 4-2A contest. The Lady Demons scored an 11-0 victory over the Lady Lions in only five innings of play. Mamou took control of the contest early, scoring two runs in the top first and seven runs in the second to pull away from Vinton. The Lady Demons added one run in the fourth and fifth innings, sealing the win.
Amber Manuel recorded the shutout, allowing no hits and striking out nine. Several Lady Demons finished the day with multiple hits. Manuel was three for four; Logan Thomas went two for four; Kelsie Mayeaux was three for three and Kourtnie Deshotel went two for three. With the win, Mamou is now 3-4 on the year and 1-0 in district.

Pine Prairie
vs. Church Point

In their first district contest, the Lady Panthers rallied from a three run deficit to take the 6-3 win over the Lady Bears on Tuesday. Church Point scored three runs in the second inning and held Pine Prairie scoreless until the fourth inning. The visiting Lady Panthers got the bats rolling in the latter part of the game, scoring two runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to complete the comeback.
Sara Tate led Pine Prairie at the plate, going two for four, including an inside the park home run. The Lady Panthers now run their record to 6-3 on the year and 1-0 in district 5-3A play.

Mamou
vs. Lake Arthur

Playing in their second district game, the Lady Demons used a six run fourth inning to thrust themselves to a 12-2 win over the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers. Mamou led 3-1 after three innings of play, before the explosive fourth inning. The Lady Demons added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lake Arthur was able to tack on an extra run in the top of the fifth.
Amber Manuel recorded the win on the mound, giving up two runs on two hits and striking out nine. Katiee Bertrand was the leading hitter for Mamou, going three for three with three runs scored. Maggie Soileau was two for three with a double and two runs batted in. Mamou improves to 4-4 on the season and 2-0 in district with the win.

Pine Prairie vs.
Ville Platte

The Lady Panthers needed only two and one half innings to take the 15-0 district win over the Lady Bulldogs. Pine Prairie scored seven runs in the first and eight in the second to move to 2-0 in district 5-3A. Ville Platte did not get a base hit in the loss and now drops to 0-3 in district play.
Sabrina Fontenot picked up the win, allowing no hits while striking out four. Leading hitter for the Lady Panthers was Shaina Boutte, who was one for one with a home run.
