Evangeline Parish weekly softball roundup

The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish softball teams.

Sacred Heart
vs. False River

In a game that came down to the last at bat, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans fell to the False River Lady Gators 4-3 in a district 5-1A contest on Thursday. The Lady Trojans tied the game in the top of the seventh, but could not hold on, as the Lady Gators scored in the bottom of the inning to earn the win. With the loss, Sacred Heart falls to 13-8 on the year and 3-3 in district. Despite the loss, the Lady Trojans finish as district runners-up.
False River took an early 1-0 lead after plating a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Trojans stormed back in the top of the fifth by scoring two runs. However, the Lady Gators regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth by adding two runs of their own. Sacred Heart battled back to tie the game at 3-3 when Sydney Fontenot scored from third base. However, False River was able to plate the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a fielder’s choice.
Elizabeth Soileau picked up the loss on the hill, giving up four runs on four hits in six complete innings of work. Soileau allowed zero walks and struck out three. Fontenot had two runs batted in, going one for two at the plate. Kara Aguillard was two for three in the game.
