Ex-Lady Bulldog, Brianna Pete, commits to L.C.

Recent Ville Platte High graduate and former Lady Bulldog hard court general, Brianna Pete has decided to further her basketball career by committing to play at Louisiana College in Pineville. Pete helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to four straight district titles and three Top 28 tournament appearances. She will join the Lady Wildcats this fall for the 2015-2016 basketball season.
Pete enjoyed a tremendous career at Ville Platte High. She accumulated 919 points, 186 assists, 274 steals and 383 rebounds in her four years as the point guard for the Lady Bulldogs. In district play, Pete was named as an honorable mention selection in 2012, an all-defensive selection in 2013 and 2014 and a second team selection in 2015. Pete was also named to the all-parish first team in 2014 and 2015. She also was recognized with the sixth man award in 2012 and 2013, the floor general award in 2014 and the Co-MVP plaque in 2015 at the Ville Platte High athletic awards ceremony.
When asked about the first time she met with Wildcat Head Coach Patrece Carter-Spivey, Pete’s eyes lit up. “I was coming out of the locker room during district, and Coach Patrece stopped me and began talking to me about coming to play for them next year,” said Pete. “I was surprised and shocked that a college coach was talking to me about playing on the next level. I was humbled that someone had recognized my accomplishments on the court.”
The day that Pete visited the campus, she felt very much at home. “On my visit to the campus, I really liked the atmosphere and the environment,” commented Pete. “I got to meet the other players, which was great. They all seemed very motivated and self-disciplined. The first thing they asked me about was how my grades were. All of them were telling me how education is key at Louisiana College and that basketball was a bonus.” Pete is planning on majoring in radiology at Louisiana College.
As far as her role on the team next season is concerned, Pete was very humble in her attitude. “I just want to go over there and put all of my heart into every practice,” said Pete. “I know I will have to prove myself. I want to try and get better every day and show the coaches that I deserve to be there. I will try to be a motivator for the other players and with my hard work, maybe I can get some playing time next year.”
Playing at Louisiana College also has another benefit for Pete. “It will be great that my parents will be able to come and watch me play, being so close to Ville Platte,” exclaimed Pete. “I know they would have supported me no matter where I went, but it is going to be nice to have them right around the corner.” Louisiana College does not offer scholarships, so Pete will have to rely on financial aid to attend the school.
Pete’s former high school coach, Dot Doulet, knows that Pete will succeed in her new surroundings. “Brianna is such a joy to coach and a very respectful young lady,” said a proud Doulet. “She is the total package. Not only is she a leader on and off the court, Brianna is very humble and has a tremendous work ethic. She will always be remembered as a floor general. I wish her all the luck in the world and will be checking up on her constantly.”
