Grand Mamou Sports begins facelift at ballpark
The Grand Mamou Sports Association has been busy over the last couple of months. They have started making major renovations at the Mamou Baseball and Softball Complex.
Utilizing funds that were donated and raised in a collective basis, the GMSA set a goal of getting the renovations in place before the start of the 2014 recreational baseball and softball season. Everything from the dugouts to the backstops received a change in the facade.
The work was done by Home Run Fence Company owned by Chris Veillon. The majority of the money was supplied by the Town of Mamou. The work was focused to give the complex an upgrade. This will help to improve the overall facility for different events, such as league play and all-star tournaments.
While the town of Mamou supplied the money for backstops, GMSA supplied the money from fundrasiers for the dugouts and press boxes. Overall, the changes are going to continue to come until the finished product is set to go.
A big special thanks goes to Phyllis Soileau, Scott Christ, Lisa Deshotels, Mamou City Council and Mayor Ricky Fontenot. The GMS board members, Deyon Guillory (President), John Lafleur, David Miller, Buck Dupuis, Jacob Berzas, Josh Manuel, Brian Wilmoth, Brian Bieber, Allen Dicks, Merl Kilbarger and Ryan Ardoin.
The finishing touches will be added in the upcoming weeks and pictures will be published. This community project is geared to give the kids a new sense of pride when they host events this summer.
