The Annual Evangeline Parish basketball tournament kicks off

The 2015 version of the Evangeline Parish basketball tournament began in earnest at Ville Platte High Wednesday afternoon. Games followed on Thursday and Friday with the championship set for yesterday at Noon. Here is a rundown of the first three days of the tournament.

Wednesday’s action
Sacred Heart (G) vs. Mamou
In a tough afternoon for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, the Mamou Lady Demons opened a 28-9 halftime lead en route to a 52-27 win.
Darelzeray Bellard led the Lady Demons with 15 points, while Sydney Shiver paced the Lady Trojans with nine points

Sacred Heart (B) vs. Mamou
The Mamou Demons outscored the Sacred Heart Trojans 19-5 in the opening quarter and never looked back in a 60-43 win.
Lil Paul Williams led the Demons with 20 points, while Keaton Tate was high scorer for the Trojans with 16 points.

Pine Prairie (G) vs. Basile
In the most entertaining game on Wednesday, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers finished off a comeback effort in the fourth quarter for a 55-51 win over the Basile Lady Bearcats.
Tori Bordelon knocked in 24 points for the Lady Panthers, while Rylie James paced the Lady Bearcats with 22 points.

Pine Prairie (B) vs. Basile
In the nightcap, the Pine Prairie Panthers held the Basile Bearcats to 12 first half points in a 54-31 victory.
Sylus Carson and Vontrevis Thomas each had 11 points for the Panthers, while Rashawn Murphy was the leading scorer for the Beacats with seven points.

Thursday’s action
Basile (G) vs. Sacred Heart
Another game that went down to the wire for the Basile Lady Bearcats, this time against the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, ended in a 55-52 win
Rylie James poured in 28 points for the Lady Bearcats. Erin Fontenot led the Lady Trojans with 14.

Basile (B) vs. Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart fell behind in the first quarter, but used a 14 point advantage in the second quarter to overtake Basile in a 65-51 win.
Seth Shipp doused the nets for 24 points to lead the Trojans. Tyree Boce paced the Bearcats with 15 points.

Mamou (G) vs. Ville Platte
A packed house in the first game of the evening session saw the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs pull away in the final quarter to take a 65-46 win over the Mamou Lady Demons.
Tyreonna Doucet put up 20 points and Kealogah Calvin chipped in 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Darelzeray Bellard stripped the nets for 16 points to lead the Lady Demons. Ka’Zhana Richard added 15 points for Mamou.

Mamou (B) vs. Ville Platte
After taking an eight point advantage after the first quarter, the Ville Platte Bulldogs saw that lead disintegrate to four at the end of the third quarter. However, Ville Platte pulled away in the final quarter for a 71-58 win.
Keilan Semien led all Bulldog players with 14 points. Leading scorer for the Demons was Lil Paul Williams who netted 19 points.

Friday’s action
Mamou (G) vs. Basile
In a game that determined which team would play for the championship, the Mamou Lady Demons wore down the Basile Lady Bearcats in a 70-52 win.
Darelzeray Bellard and Kiajah Wilson each pitched in 13 points for the Lady Demons. Rylie James once again scorched the nets for 25 points to lead the Lady Bearcats

Sacred Heart (B)
vs. Mamou
The Mamou Demons secured a spot in the championship game in a dominating 59-29 win over the Sacred Heart Trojans.
Russell Edwards knocked in a game high 24 points for the Demons. Keaton Tate and Seth Shipp each contributed eight points for the Trojans in the loss.

Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Ville Platte
Tyreonna Doucet and the Lady Bulldogs were too much for the Lady Panthers to handle, as Ville Platte cruised to a 65-30 win. With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs secured a spot in the championship game.
Doucet torched the nets for 22 points to lead Ville Platte. Taylar Deville put up 12 points for Pine Prairie in the loss.

Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Ville Platte
In a preview of what is to come in district competition the Ville Platte Bulldogs walked away with a 69-57 win over the Pine Prairie Panthers.
With the win, Ville Platte found themselves in the championship game on Saturday.
Brandon Thomas had 15 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Martin Jason chipped in 12 points.
The Panthers were led by Douglas Fontenot, who knocked down 19 points in the loss.
