Lady Bulldogs collect another district title

Even with one district game left, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs have once again captured the district 5-3A championship. The Lady Bulldogs earned the title with a 64-25 win over the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers on Friday night.
Ville Platte now has a three-game lead on everyone else in the district, with one game left on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will close out the regular season on Tuesday at home against the Livonia Lady Wildcats.
Neither team got off to a good start after the opening tip. Ville Platte scored the first points of the game on a basket by Deja McKinney. The Lady Panthers answered back with the next five points. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead back at the 5:53 mark and never relinquished that lead. By the time the first quarter came to a close, Ville Platte had managed to take a 14-5 lead.
The second quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs ramp up the defensive pressure. Pine Prairie could not break through the Ville Platte pressure and was only able to score one point in the entire period. The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the stalled Lady Panther offense and ran off 15 points to lead 29-6 as the first half ended.
Coming out of the locker room, Pine Prairie sought to try and crawl their way back into the game. However, the Ville Platte defense was just as suffocating in the third quarter as it was in the second quarter. The Lady Panthers could only muster four more points in the period.
In fact, Pine Prairie did not score their seventh point until the 3:38 mark of the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs finished on a six-point run to lead 46-10 as the period closed.
The final quarter saw Ville Platte utilize the entire bench. With mostly freshmen and sophomores in the game for the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Panther were able to put up some better offensive numbers.
Unfortunately for Pine Prairie, Ville Platte was able to keep pace. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Panthers 18-15 to finish out the game.
Because of limited playing time, Ville Platte only had two players score in double digits. McKinney netted 13 points and Brianna Pete added 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Leading the way for Pine Prairie was Taylor Deville, who knocked down 10 points.
With the win, Ville Platte is now 25-4 on the season and 9-0 in district. The Lady Panthers fall to 3-21 on the year and 0-9 in league play.
