Lady Bulldogs suffer first defeat of the year
An undefeated season is a goal that all teams seek as a new season kicks off. The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs were one of the teams who sought that goal. However, a key injury to sophomore standout Tyreonna Doucet has aided in stopping that goal from being reached. With Doucet out, Ville Platte suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers, 52-51. The Lady Bulldogs faced off against the Lady Tigers in the Sam Houston tournament being played in Moss Bluff.
The game started very slowly, as Lake Arthur took the early 8-6 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Tigers continued to put pressure on Ville Platte, as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 19-17 in the second period. Even with Deja McKinney’s nine points in the stanza, Lake Arthur still lead at halftime 27-23.
The third quarter saw the Lady Tigers extend their lead over Ville Platte 41-31, using a 14-8 advantage in the period. A 20-11 surge by the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter fell one point short in the attempted comeback. McKinney netted 13 points in the period to support Ville Platte’s intended rally.
On the night, McKinney popped the net for 28 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Brianna Pete chipped in 10 points for Ville Platte. The Lady Bulldogs are now 11-1 on the season and will take on more competitors in the Lady Bronco tournament on Saturday.
