Lady Demons continue perfection in district play

A district title has been a goal for the Mamou Lady Demons since the start of the 2014-2015 basketball season. The Lady Demons took a step closer to that goal on Friday night, as they dominated DeQuincy High School in a 60-26 win. Mamou now leads district 4-2A with a perfect 3-0 record and run their season record to 16-6. The Lady Demons will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Welsh in a district contest.
The Lady Demons controlled both the offensive and defensive sides of the court from start to finish. The first half set the tone for the rest of the game. Mamou came out ready to continue their undefeated district record by outscoring the Lady Tigers 16-4 in the first quarter. Another commanding performance in the second period stretched the Lady Demon advantage to 30-11 as the buzzer sounded to end the second stanza.
Mamou’s relentless defense carried over to the second half, as the Lady Demons held DeQuincy to a meager 15 points in the runaway victory.
Leading the Lady Demons offensively was Arkie Thomas, who netted 21 points. Dezzy Bellard added 14 points in the win.
