Lady Demons fall to Lake Arthur Thursday Night

In a battle of district 4-2A leaders, the Mamou Lady Demons hit the road to take on the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers Thursday night. Mamou entered the game trailing Lake Arthur by one game in the district standings, after losing an earlier contest to the Lady Tigers. A win by the Lady Demons would give them a share of the district crown. Unfortunately for Mamou, Lake Arthur was just too much to handle, as the Lady Demons fell to the Lady Tigers 77-32.
It was apparent from the beginning that Mamou would have their hands full. The Lady Tigers started the game by putting tremendous defensive pressure on the Lady Demons and continued that pressure throughout the entire contest.
Lake Arthur took control in the first quarter by outpacing Mamou 14-8. The second quarter was not very good for the Lady Demons offensively, as they were only able to net four points the entire period. The Lady Tigers took full advantage of the ice-cold shooting of Mamou and knocked in 15 points to increase their lead to 39-12 as the first half ended.
Another poor offensive performance by the Lady Demons in the third period only added to the Lake Arthur advantage. Mamou could only muster six points in the quarter. The Lady Tigers kept the offensive momentum alive, adding another 13 points in the third stanza. As the horn sounded to end the period, Lake Arthur held a 52-18 lead over the Lady Demons.
In the last period, Mamou did manage to score in double digits. The Lady Demons tacked on 14 points before the quarter could close. However, the Lady Tigers showed no signs of slowing down offensively, as they poured in another 25 points before the final buzzer to seal the win.
Mamou was led by Arkieyanah Thomas who netted 12 points in the loss. The Lady Demons finish the regular season with an overall record of 22-8 and an 8-2 district record.
After a successful season and a district runner-up performance, all that remains for Mamou is to wait until Monday to see who and where they will play in their first playoff game.
