Lady Demons lose two in Bunkie Tournament
A trip to Bunkie to participate in the Lady Panther Tournament was on tap for the Mamou Lady Demon softball team this past weekend. The Lady Demons took on the Pineville Lady Rebels and the Jena Lady Giants, losing both games. With the two losses Mamou is now 0-4 on the season. Here are the results from those two games.
In the first contest on Saturday, the Lady Demons collected seven hits, but could only manage to plate one run in an 8-1 loss to the class 5A Lady Rebels. Mamou collected their only run in the top of the first inning on a base hit by Logan Thomas, scoring Amber Manuel. Pineville responded with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Two-run innings in the second and fifth followed by a three-run sixth completed the scoring for the Lady Rebels.
Leading hitters for Mamou were Manuel and Thomas. Manuel went two for four with a run scored. Thomas was also two for four with a run batted in. Maggie Soileau took the loss on the mound, giving up six runs on six hits, while striking out one and walking six.
The second game of the day pitted Mamou against Jena High School. The Lady Giants scored in the first, third and fifth innings in route to a 4-2 defeat of the Lady Demons. Mamou picked up a run in the fourth inning when Madison Trahan doubled to lead off and scored on a single by Kourtnie Deshotel. Back to back singles in the sixth inning by Kelsie Mayeaux and Deshotels was followed by a two out single by Amber Manuel scored the Lady Demon’s second and final run of the game.
Trahan led all hitters going three for four, including a double and a run scored. Deshotel was three for three with a run batted in. Logan Thomas went two for four in the game. Amber Manuel took the loss, throwing seven complete innings. She gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking three. Manuel is now 0-2 on the year.
