Lady Panthers get by Caldwell
Pine Prairie, the 15th seed in Class 3A, slid by the 18th seed Cladwell by a score of 3-2 to advance in the Class 3A playoffs. It was the first ever Class 3A playoff win for the school.
Pine Prairie went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Rani Ardoin walked and moved to second base on a bunt from pitcher Alyssa Jackson. Ardoin went over to third base on a passed ball and then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field from Macey Harvey.
Caldwell answered back with a run in the top of the fifth inning. A single, coupled with a bunt and an error allowed the CHS girls to tie the game up at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, the visiting team took the lead. A leadoff single started things off. Jackson then retired the next two batters and it looked as if she would get out of the jam. Then Caldwell ripped back-to-back singles and scored a run.
Pine Prairie was not to be outdone. They pulled out all of the stops in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sabrina Fontenot singled and went to second base on a bunt from Sara Tate. Fontenot then stole third and scored the tying run on a passed ball. With two outs, Reagan Reed walked and stole her way to second base. A passed ball moved her over to third base. At that point, PPHS Head Coach Carolyn Deville gave her the green light to try a delayed steal. Reed executed it perfectly and scored the winning run on the delayed steal.
The Lady Panthers take on the second ranked Kaplan Lady Pirates tomorrow at 4 p.m. Kaplan is 23-5 and won District 6-3A.
