The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers and Panthers took to the road on Tuesday to face off against district rival Port Barre.
The Lady Panthers received some clutch hitting from Sara Tate to pick up the win over the Lady Red Devils and remain undefeated on the season.
Meanwhile, Port Barre was just too much for Pine Prairie on the baseball diamond, as the Panthers fell to the Red Devils to even their district record.
Here is a recap of both games played.
Lady Panthers vs. Lady Red Devils
Pine Prairie scored four runs in the third and added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to blank Port Barre.
Lady Panther pitcher Karli Ortego was masterful on the mound for the Lady Panthers, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out 10. Only one batter reached base for Port Barre, that coming on an error.
With the win Pine Prairie is now 18-0 on the season and 4-0 in District 5-3A.
The Lady Panthers were lead at the plate by Tate, who was two for two with a single, a double and four runs batted in.
Julia Chaddrick went two for four for the Lady Panthers in the win.
Pine Prairie was scheduled to travel to Ville Platte on Wednesday and to host Church Point today; both of those games are district games.
Panthers vs. Red Devils
Pine Prairie could only manage four runs in an 11-4 loss to Port Barre in an important early district game for both squads.
With the loss, Pine Prairie falls to 9-5 on the season and 1-1 in District 5-3A.
The Panthers are scheduled to travel to Ville Platte today to take on district and inter-parish rival Ville Platte High. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
Against the Red Devils, Pine Prairie got off to a very slow start both offensively and defensively.
Port Barre scored two runs in the first and five runs in the second innings respectfully to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
The Red Devils added three more runs in the third to move past the Panthers 10-0.
Pine Prairie did not put up any runs until the top of the fifth inning.
In that inning, the Panthers managed to score four runs. After a single from Zac Lee and a double off of the bat of Devin Legett, Dylan Doucet walked.
Two batters later, Josh Fontenot drove a pitch over the outfield wall for a three run home run.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, that would be all the scoring they could manage.
Port Barre tacked on a single run in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Fontenot was two-for-three at the plate for the Panthers.
