Lady Trojans blast Lady Gators

When the fifth seeded Lady Trojans drew the Lady Gators of Northwood-Lena, they knew they would have no problem winning in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Sure enough, the 17-2 score was a good indication of the lack of competition, but the SHHS girls would not play down to the competition. Instead, the SHHS girls would use the game to sharpen their skills as they head into their second round game against Cedar Creek.
Cedar Creek, the 12th seed, crushed the Lady Wolves of Montgomery 13-0 in their first round game. Cedar Creek will bring a three-year starter to the circle tomorrow. The teams will be battling for the right to go to Sulphur to compete in the Class 1A State Tournament.
The teams will collide tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart. It is expected to be a very good game. Cedar Creek is 15-12 and they won District 1-1A. The Lady Cougars have been up and down all year. They lost to Sterlington 5-2 right before the season ended. Then turned around to pound Montgomery.
The winner of this game would advance to Sulphur and meet either the 13th seed St. Edmund’s or the 4th seed Mangham.
Bailey Veillon earned the win in the circle against Northwood. A sophomore, she managed to get past the nerves and jitters and earn a playoff win.
On offense, the Lady Trojans collected 11 hits and scored 17 runs. They scored eight in their first trip to the plate and then exploded for nine more runs in the fourth inning.
Gabbie Andrepont led the charge going 3-4 with four runs batted in. She also scored twice and hit a double. Anne Marie Soileau was 2-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI’s. Hannah Lemoine was 2-2 and she also drove in a pair of runs. Courtney Cloud hit a triple and drove in three runs and Heather Johnson ripped a double.
The crowds are expected to be in full force for tomorrow’s game in Ville Platte.
