It was a substantial night for two of the parish basketball teams, as the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans and the Mamou Demons both picked up huge district wins.
Sacred Heart hosted the Academy of the Sacred Heart Lady Firebirds in hopes of remaining in second place in District 5-2A, on game out the league lead.
The Lady Trojans did more than just pick up a win, they totally dominated the Lady Firebirds in a 52-10 blowout. With Tuesday’s victory, Sacred Heart is now 10-11 on the year and 3-1 in district play.
The Lady Trojans will next travel to Notre Dame on Friday night. The Lady Pioneers are undefeated in league play and beat Sacred Heart earlier this season.
The Mamou Demons were looking to stay in the District 4-2A title hunt, as they came into the contest two games behind league leading Welsh.
The Demons made things interesting the entire game, but came up with an important one point win, 59-58, over the Lake Arthur Tigers.
Mamou improves to 10-11 with the win and is now 2-2 in district competition.
Here is a recap of both games.
Sacred Heart (G) vs. Academy of SH
The Lady Trojans dominated the contest from the initial jump ball, outscoring the Lady Firebirds 23-2 in the first quarter.
Sacred Heart turned down the defensive heat in the second period, but still managed to take a 13-4 advantage in the period to lead 36-6 at the half.
The Lady Trojans emptied the bench the remainder of the game, and had 11 players record points in the contest.
Moira Parks scored 11 points to lead all Lady Trojans, while Sydney Shiver added 10 points to the cause.

Mamou (B) vs.
Lake Arthur
It took a team effort for the Mamou Demons to get the close win over the Lake Arthur Tigers, as four Demon players scored in double digits in the contest.
Mamou fell behind 9-7 in the initial period, but outpaced the Tigers 17-13 in the second quarter to hold a 24-22 lead going into halftime.
The Demons and the Tigers were as close as two teams could be in the third quarter, with Mamou scoring a 20-19 advantage in the period.
Despite Lake Arthur netting two more points than Mamou in the final frame, the Demons were able to hold on for the win.
