GRAND COTEAU – Coming into Monday night’s contest against the Academy of the Sacred Heart, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans were hoping to keep pace with Notre Dame, the district 5-1A leader, and stay one game out of first place.
Not only did the Lady Trojans accomplish that mission, they did so in resounding fashion by blasting the Lady Saints 60-22.
With the win, Sacred Heart improves to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in district play.
The Lady Trojans will host Notre Dame, who is undefeated in district, this Friday night in a key game for both squads.
It was all Sacred Heart from the beginning against an out matched ASH team. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter lead over the Lady Saints.
Sacred Heart continued to suffocate ASH on defense as the second quarter rolled around.
The Lady Trojans produced another 14 points on offense while holding the Lady Saints to five points again in the second quarter.
With that, Sacred Heart went into the locker room with a commanding 33-10 lead.
As the second half developed, the Lady Trojans were able to get some of the bench players some much needed time on the floor.
With the defense continuing to dominate, Sacred Heart outscored the Lady Saints 15-7 in the third quarter to increase their advantage to 48-19.
It was mostly mop up duty for the Lady Trojans in the final quarter, as once more Sacred Heart was able to hold ASH to five points and close out the game.
Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Kara Aguillard, who netted 14 points.
