Lady Trojans roll to non-district win Friday
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans hosted the Northwood Lady Gators on Friday night in a non-district match-up. The Lady Trojans started slow, but finished with a flurry in running away with a 56-25 win. The win gives Sacred Heart a 6-7 record on the year. The Lady Trojans will now host Vermilion Catholic at home on Monday.
The first quarter saw both squads score under 10 points, as the Lady Trojans took an early 8-5 lead. Four Sacred Heart players scored in the first quarter.
Sacred Heart jump started their offense in the second quarter, scoring 22 points in the period. Catherine Poche led the Lady Trojans in the quarter with six points. Sacred Heart held the Lady Gators to four points in the period to burst ahead 30-9 as the first half came to a close.
In the third quarter, The Lady Trojans picked up where they left off in the first half. Sacred Heart outscored the Lady Gators 15-5 in the period to extend their lead to 45-14. Erin Fontenot netted four points in the quarter to lead the charge.
The final stanza saw a number of substitutions for the Lady Trojans. Both squads were able to add 11 points to their totals by the time the final buzzer sounded.
Sacred Heart had 13 girls register points in the game. The Lady Trojans were led by Catherine Poche, who scored nine points. Erin Fontenot added eight points, while Natalie Earles chipped in seven points. Poche was the leading rebounder for Sacred Heart with a total of seven boards. Fontenot had six steals, while Earles produced four assists.
