Lady Trojans take out Lady Gators
The Lady Trojans went on the road to take on the Lady Gators of False River. Sacred Heart wasted no time and hammered down on the home team, winning the game 69-48.
The first period opened up with Sacred Heart hitting the right spot on all cylinders. Seven different Lady Trojans scored in the frame. Erin Fontenot scored six points and ended the game with 12 points total. Heather Johnson drilled a three point shot and sank a pair of free throws. Overall, the offensive surge put the Lady Trojans at a 23-9 lead after just the first period.
In the second period, Sacred Heart maintained the lead and out-scored the home team again 14-13. Johnson added another five points and Fontenot hit a pair of buckets. Sacred Heart managed to take a 37-22 lead into the half.
The second half saw more of the same from Sacred Heart. The local girls turned on their defensive skills and scored points off it. Catherine Poche was big on the boards and she forced two turnvoers. She changed those turnovers into four points. Heather Johnson was also big on the boards. She led the team with 18 points overall. For the second time in the game, seven Lady Trojans scored in the period. Sacred Heart out-scored False River 20-14 in the period.
The team traded points in the final period, with False River out scoring SHHS 12-11. The Lady Trojans managed to keep the lead and stay on top. Kara Aguillard sank a pair of buckets and Johnson also added another four points.
On defense, Natalie Earles and Sydney Shiver were big on defense in the frame and helped to frustrate the Lady Gators.
Sacred Heart improves to 9-14 on the season and 3-2 in district play. The Lady Trojans will host Catholic of Pointe Coupee tomorrow night at Sacred Heart. The local girls defeated the Lady Hornets 74-41 the last time the two teams met.
