The 2016 LHSAA girl’s playoff brackets have been released and for four Evangeline Parish teams the dream of winning a state championship is still alive and well.
In Class 3A, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs, fresh off of a District 5-3A title game win against Eunice garnered the No. 14 seed and will host the No. 19 seed Carroll Lady Bulldogs.
The bi-district game is set for Thursday at 6 p.m.
Ville Platte has made the playoffs every year in the seven years that head coach Dot Doulet has been at the helm.
For Doulet, the chance to once again reach the postseason is an amazing accomplishment for her Lady Bulldog squad.
“It is a true blessing for us to be in the playoffs for another year,” said Doulet. “Our girls have worked so hard this year to have the ability to play against the best in the state.”
Ville Platte faces a Carroll team that was 14-13 overall and 5-5 in district 2-3A.
In Class 2A, the Mamou Lady Demons and the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans have both sealed spots in the playoff brackets.
Mamou, the undefeated District 4-2A champion, has earned a No. 8 seed and will host Dunham High School Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
“Our focus all season long has been to finish what we started last season,” commented Mamou head coach Mark Temple. “We lost in the first round last year and it still stings. Our main goal is not to let that happen again. We want to make a deep run in the playoffs this year and that mission begins Thursday night.”
Sacred Heart finished the season 15-9 and tied for second place in District 5-2A. They drew the No. 32 seed and will have to face the number one seed in Class 2A, North Caddo.
The Lady Trojans will have to travel to North Caddo, located in Vivian on Thursday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
“They have a really strong team and a top recruit,” stated Sacred Heart head coach Stephanie Fontenot. “I just want our girls to go out and compete as hard as they can. We will look at the scoreboard only when the game is over.”
In Class 1A, the Basile Lady Bearcats, under the leadership of first year head coach Carmen Langley has earned the No. 12 seed and will host Homer High School Thusday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Lady Bearcats finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-8 and was the District 5-1A runners-up with a record of 8-2.
