Mamou’s Manuel Duo Lead All-Parish

The 2014 High School Softball Season in Evangeline Parish was an interesting one. In a very rare occurrence, none of the teams made it to the State Tournament in Sulphur. However, three district champs came out of the parish. Pine Prairie was the three-way district champion in District 5-3A and Sacred Heart was the co-champ in District 5-1A.
The Mamou Lady Demons won the District 4-2A Championship outright and that is a main reason they have the highest places on the 2014 All-Evangeline Parish Softball Team. Mamou Head Coach Kim Manuel earns the Coach of the Year award. Her Demons were 18-8 on the year and have a lot of good talent coming back. Mamou also put several players on the Class 2A All-State Team.
Amber Manuel, a junior, earns the Parish Most Valuable Player. She was 16-6 in the circle and batted .511 at the plate. Manuel had an earned run average of 1.12 on the season. She looks to get the Lady Demons back to Sulphur in 2015.
Joining Manuel in the circle is Sacred Heart senior Malerie Limoges. She was 9-4 on the season and posted an ERA of 2.6. PPHS Pitcher Alexis Hammond, a junior, batted .333 and posted an ERA of 1.48 for Pine Prairie. She fanned 87 batters on the season.
Mamou’s Logan Thomas is tabbed as the parish catcher. Thomas batted .766 on the season. As a junior, she is looking at a very strong senior season in 2015.
The infield begins with Sacred Heart duo of Elizabeth Soileau and Heather Fontenot. Soileau, a junior, played a lot of shortstop and hit for .402 on the year. A senior, Fontenot played second base, made all-district, and batted .386 for the Lady Trojans. Mamou’s Alanah Komorowski played shortstop and posted a batting average of .466 and she swiped 21 bases. The speedy senior will surely be missed in 2015. Also from Mamou is Kelsie Guillory and Maggie Soileau. Guillory played first base and pitched for the Lady Demons, while Soileau played second and first base. Pine Prairie’s Reagan Reed, a junior, had a strong season on the corners for PPHS. She hit .345 and drove in 22 runs. She posted a field average of .989.
Pine Prairie’s Julia Chaddrick leads the All-Parish outfield. Chaddrick hit .411 as a freshman and was clutch for PPHS, stealing 21 bags during the season. Sacred Heart’s Courtney Cloud, a senior, batted .387 and drove in 13 runs. Alyssa Jackson earns the final spot in the outfield. Jackson posted a batting average of .389 and did not have any errors in the PPHS outfield. She will surely be missed in 2015 from the PPHS line-up.
Gabbie Andrepont, SHHS sophomore, earns the first utility spot on the AP team. She hit .532 and drove in 34 runs on the season. She swiped 12 bags and led the team with an on base percentage of .617.
Pine Prairie’s Sabrina Fontenot, a junior, batted .372 and drove in 23 runs for the Lady Panthers. She played shortstop as her primary position for the Lady Panthers.
Several players from throughout the parish earned Honorable Mention. From Sacred Heart, Taylor Perry and Heather Johnson. From Mamou, Kourtnie Deshotel and Kelsie Mayeaux, from PPHS, Rani Ardoin and Macey Harvey and from VPHS, Regan Jagneaux and Brianne Betterton.
Congrats to all the high school softball players in Evangeline Parish who had an great 2014 softball season.
