All good things must come to an end.
For the Mamou Lady Demons the end came too soon, as they fell 81-43 in the quarterfinals to the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2A, North Cadddo Thursday night.
All in all it was a very productive season for the Lady Demons. Mamou won the outright district title and finished the season with an overall record of 25-10.
“We played extremely hard all season long,” said Mamou head coach Mark Temple. “I am so proud of what this team has accomplished this year. We had a mission at the start of the season and, for the most part, fulfilled that mission.”
Mamou gained a quick understanding of why it is so hard to face arguably the best team in the state early on.
North Caddo took control of the game from the start, outscoring Mamou 21-8 in the opening period.
Things did not get any better for the Lady Demons in the second quarter. The Lady Rebels matched the defensive effort and held Mamou to eight points again, taking a commanding 45-16 lead into the locker room.
The second half saw improvement in the Mamou offense. The Lady Demons added 15 points in the third quarter and tacked on another 12 points in the final period.
Unfortunately, North Caddo continued to score and sailed home with the win.
Darelzeray Bellard led all Lady Demons with 18 points.
“One thing I can say, is that with this experience underneath us, look out for Mamou next year,” stated Temple.
