Mamou basketball teams compete at Northwest Tourney

The Mamou High Demon and Lady Demon basketball teams took to the hard court this past weekend to compete in the Northwest High Holiday Tournament.
Both the Demons and Lady Demons began play on Sunday, taking on the Northwest High Raiders and Lady Raiders respectfully.
Here is a rundown of the Mamou boys and girls’ first two games of the tournament

Mamou (B)
vs. Northwest
Mamou jumped out to a five point lead in the first quarter, but could not maintain that lead, as Northwest took a 68-50 win over the Demons.
Mamou led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter, but surrendered 20 points to Northwest in the second quarter to fall behind 33-17 to the Raiders as the first half buzzer sounded.
Northwest continued the offensive explosion in the second half, outscoring Mamou by 22 points to take home the win.
Mamou was led by Russell Edwards, who netted 15 points.

vs. Northwest
The impressive shooting display from the Mamou Lady Demons carried them to a 68-50 win over the Northwest Lady Raiders in the opening game for both clubs.
Mamou came out of the gate firing three-pointers, hitting two in the first quarter alone to jump out to a 20-11 lead.
The game was pretty even the rest of the way, as the eight point lead for the Lady Demons held throughout the rest of the game.
Darelzeray Bellard led all Mamou players with 23 points.

Mamou (B) vs. North Central
The Demons dropped to the loser’s bracket after thier loss on Sunday and took on the North Central Hurricanes.
Mamou found themselves down by two, 31-29, as the first half came to a close.
The Demons burst through offensively in the third quarter, outscoring the Hurricanes 22-13 en route to a 63-54 win.
Lil Paul Williams poured in 24 points for Mamou.

Mamou (G) vs. Scotlandville
The Lady Demons had a rough time against one of the best teams in the state, falling to the Lady Hornets 49-30.
It was a struggle offensively for Mamou, as they only scored 13 points in the first half.
Scotlandville was able to score in double digits all four quarters in the win.
Arkeiyanah Thomas was top scorer for Mamou with 10 points.
