The Mamou High Demons (0-6, 0-1) will once again have an uphill battle this coming Friday night as they travel to recent class 2A powerhouse Kinder High (5-1, 1-0) in a district 4-2A game. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Kinder has made the playoffs their second home over the last few years, winning the state championship two years ago and taking home the state runner-up trophy last season.
“Kinder is one of those elite teams in the state,” said Demon head coach Brian Brumfield. “They are much disciplined and well coached. We are just going to go out and give everything we have against them.”
Mamou has had a tough season so far in terms of injuries, and with depth an issue for the Demons, it has been an uphill battle. This past Friday, starting quarterback Levi Fontenot was the latest Mamou player to go down in a 40-8 loss to Lake Arthur.
“Levi will definitely be out for this game,” stated Brumfield. “We also will have two starting linemen out and they play on both sides of the ball. On the positive side we should have one of our starting running backs, Shawn Malveaux, available to us.”
Kinder enters the contest with an overall record 5-1 on the season and are 1-0 in district 4-2A play. The Yellow Jackets average 43 points per game and have scored over 50 points twice this season. Kinder holds opponents to an average of 18.7 points per game.
