Mamou falls 50-12 in district opener

LAKE ARTHUR -- It was a night of big plays in the District 5-2A opening game for Mamou. Unfortunately, the Demons were not the beneficiary of those plays, as they fell to Lake Arthur 50-12 here Thursday night.
With the loss, Mamou is now 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in district play. Lake Arthur moves to 4-2 and 1-0.
The Tigers took control of the game early, scoring the first touchdown of the game on a 32-yard fumble recovery, as the turnover bug continued to bite Mamou. The two-point conversion was good and as the first quarter drew to a close, Lake Arthur held an 8-0 lead.
After their initial points of the game, the Tigers proceeded to reel off the next five touchdowns to put the game away by the beginning of the third quarter.
Lake Arthur used all of the second quarter, scoring right until the first half buzzer sounded. The Tigers hit pay dirt on runs of 61-yards, 52-yards and one-yard. Sandwiched in between those scoring runs was a 14-yard touchdown strike. The extra point was made two out of the four times attempted and at the half, Lake Arthur held a 34-0 lead.
The Tigers opened the second half with a one-yard touchdown run and an extra point to open the lead up to 41-0. However, Mamou finally reached the end zone in the third quarter when Shawn Malveaux powered his way in for a six-yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good and the Lake Arthur lead was cut to 41-6.
The Tigers added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard run. The extra point was missed, putting the score at 47-6.
Mamou added their final points in the game mid-way through the final period, as Daylon Ardoin sprinted 22-yards for the score. Once again the extra point was missed and the Tigers held a 47-12 lead.
The final points of the night came on a Lake Arthur 19-yard field goal late in the waning moments of the game.
