Mamou floods 4-2A Squad
Mamou Head Coach Kim Manuel and her talented band of ladies started out the season on a mission. They won four straight when it all began in February. They played some tough competition in various tournaments before running into a rigorous district schedule.
In District 4-2A, the Lady Demons went on a tear and won 10 straight games to earn the league championship outright. They would not share with any other school, despite having two teams make it into the playoffs. DeQuincy advanced all the way to the quarter-finals, and Kinder also made the playoffs.
When district honors were named, Mamou was very well represented. Manuel earned Coach of the Year and it was well deserved with a district championship and an overall record of 18-8.
Mamou’s junior hurler, Amber Manuel, has been the MHS starting ace for a while now. She seems to get better and better each season. This season, she was crowned the Most Valuable Player of District 4-2A. She had a great outing in league play, going 9-0 with 95 strikeouts. She was also vicious with the stick. She hit .529 and drove in 12 runs. She helped her own cause by scoring 18 times.
Joining Manuel is junior catcher Logan Thomas. The catcher hit .786 in league play and drove home 21 runs. She crossed the dish 13 times.
On the infield, Kelsie Guillory earned a spot for the first time for her work at second base. The senior hit .389 and pushed home 11 runs. She helped her team out by scoring 10 runs.
In the outfield, Kelsie Mayeaux had a great time in league play by hitting .310 and scoring six times. Mayeaux is a junior and will be a strong asset next season for the Lady Demons.
Alanah Komorowski and Maggie Soileau each earned first team utility spots. Komorowski played mostly at shortstop during her senior year. She hit .484 in 4-2A play and drove home 14 runs altogether. Soileau, a sophomore, played in the outfield and the infield for the MHS team. She hit .444 in league play and pushed home 13 runs.
Four Lady Demons earned spots on the second team. Third baseman Kourtnie Deshotel and outfielders Gabrielle Fontenot and Maddie Trahan each made the second team for their respective positions. Lauren Soileau earned a second team utility spot for the Mamou ladies.
Congratulations go out to all of the Mamou Lady Demons who earned recognition for their performance in District 4-2A.
