Mamou High boys and girls sweep Eunice in openers

EUNICE - It was a sweet way to open the season for the Mamou High Demon and Lady Demon basketball teams, as they both came away with huge wins over Eunice High here Monday night.
For the Demons, Mack Thomas and Darius Tezeno each poured in 17 points to lead Mamou to a 73-58 win.
The Lady Demons looked like a team on a mission again this season, as they showed no mercy in a 61-20 blasting of the Lady Bobcats.
Here is a rundown of the two contests.

Lady Demons
vs. Lady Bobcats
The game was not even close from the start between the Lady Demons and the Lady Bobcats.
Mamou jumped all over Eunice from the opening tip off and did not let up the entire way. The Lady Demons outscored the Lady Bobcats in the first quarter 17-3 to put the game out of reach from the start.
In the quarter Mamou’s Kazhana Richard scored nine points, seven of those on free throws to lead the Lady Demons.
Mamou did not let up in the second quarter, outpacing Eunice 25-15.
The Lady Demon defense became the story of the game in the second half, as they held the Lady Bobcats to only two points, while draining the nets for 19 points of their own.
Richard led all scorers with 25 points.

Demons vs. Bobcats
The Mamou Demons picked up from their playoff appearance last season and used their experience to out gun the Eunice Bobcats.
Mamou opened the game by holding Eunice to under 10 points in the first quarter and collected 16 points to hold the early lead.
The second quarter was much closer, as the two teams traded baskets throughout the period. The Demons outpaced the Bobcats and led 30-22 at the half.
However, the second half belonged to Mamou, as they put up 20 or more points in the final two quarters to pull away and pick up the win.
