The Mamou High Demons have had their share of mistakes over the past four games. For example, Mamou has thrown interceptions that have been taken back for touchdowns in three of the four games played.
Those mistakes have cost the Demons chances to pick up their first win of the season. This Thursday, Mamou will have another opportunity to correct those miscues, as they host Oakdale in their final non-district contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
“I told the players after the loss this Friday to Pine Prairie that we control our own destiny,” stated Mamou head coach Brian Brumfield. “We have to stop making the mistakes that not only put us out of ball games, but also give the other team points. It’s just a matter of us cleaning up those situations and giving us a chance to stay in game.”
Mamou will look to correcting those mistakes at practice this week. According to Brumfield, the focus for the Demons will be pinpoint execution.
“Every phase of the game has had break downs in execution over the course of the season,” said Brumfield. “Our job this week at practice is to continue to work on making sure we execute the game plan and do the little things correctly. When the little things are done the right way, the big picture comes into focus more clearly.”
The Demons will try to bring that focus to the field against the Oakdale Warriors. Oakdale brings a 1-3 record into the game Thursday.
However, the Warriors have faced some of the toughest teams in the state, losing to the likes of Kinder, Welsh and Iowa. This makes it hard for Brumfield to get a feel of how good Oakdale really is.
“They seem to execute well on offense,” commented Brumfield. “Defensively, they fly to the ball and are very physical. After watching them on film, it is hard to really see how good they are because they have played some really good teams. We are just going to have to go out and play our game to perfection.”
