The Mamou High Demons knew going into Friday’s game against East Beauregard that it would be important tocontrol the Trojan run game if the Demons were to have a chance at their first win of the season.
However, that scenario did not play out, as East Beauregard rushed for 343 yards on 51 carries to run past Mamou 35-6.
In fact the Trojans did not even attempt a pass in the contest. East Beauregard averaged 6.7 yards per carry against the Demons.
East Beauregard wasted no time in taking control of the game. The Trojans scored three times in the first quarter on runs of 20, 38 and 11 yards respectively. After the first touchdown, East Beauregard’s kicker missed the extra point.
The Trojans added the two-point conversion on the second touchdown.
East Beauregard scored again in the second quarter on a three yard run. The extra point was good and the Trojans were up 28-0.
The final touchdown for East Beauregard came in the third quarter on a 44 yard run. The extra point was true and the Trojans now led 35-0.
Mamou got on the board in the final quarter. Shawn Malveau plunged into the end zone from two yards out to make the score 6-0. The extra point was no good, keeping the score as is.
The Demon offense was held in check all night long. Mamou could only manage 97 total yards for the contest.
The majority of those yards came on the ground, as the Demons rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries.
Quarterback Levi Fontenot led all rushers with 57 yards on five carries. Fontenot was also two of 13 for 31 yards through the air.
“We played hard,” stated Mamou head coach Brian Brumfield. “But as usual we made a lot of mistakes. We had to play with a few of our starters missing tonight. That hurts, especially when a couple of those starters are on the offensive line.”
“We just could not match-up size wise,” Brumfield continued. “They were bigger up front and utilized that to their advantage all game long.”
Mamou (0-2) will host the Oberlin Tigers Friday night .
