In a season of heartbreak and disappointment for the Mamou Demons (0-9, 0-4), there have been some positives that can be taken away in 2015.
Even though the Demons have faced a depleted corps because of injury, the future looks bright, as a number of underclassman have stepped in and given some important minutes.
Leading that group is freshman quarterback Darius Tezeno. Tezeno has really shined in the last two games, throwing for 404 yards and five touchdowns, while running for 175 yards.
“Having only three seniors, we are playing a number of young kids,” said Mamou head coach Brian Brumfield. “Those guys are giving a tremendous effort. Take for example Darius. He had really come into his own the last two weeks.
We knew he was a good athlete, but he has been doing a better job than we really thought.” Mamou will try to get in the win column in the final week of the season as they host the Vinton Lions (2-7, 1-3) this Friday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Vinton’s two wins come against a 1-8 Rosepine team and a 2-7 DeQuincy squad. The Lions have averaged 23.6 points per game on offense and gives up 37.8 points per game on defense.
“Vinton runs the ball right at you,” stated Brumfield. “They want to manage the clock by running. We are going to go with the same formula the last two weeks; run first, pass second. Hopefully we can put some points up and get a victory.
