Manuel heads SHHS on AD squad
The Sacred Heart Trojans played in a district that sent every team to the Division IV playoffs. Many of the teams, including the Trojans, advanced to the second round of the playoffs. When the All-District 5-1A team was selected, representatives were spread out amongst all the teams.
However, Sacred Heart would get one of the Most Valuable Players. Senior Grant Manuel, a linebacker, was named the MVP of the district. Manuel, 5’11” 221 pounds, led the Trojans in tackles and was a huge force on both sides of the ball. On offense, he ran the football in short yardage situations and had big games in the playoffs.
Joining Manuel on the first team defense is senior Wesley Fontenot who was selected as a defensive back.
Junior defensive lineman Brandon Hudspeth was named to the second defensive team and was the only SHHS player in the group.
Five Trojans earned tabs for Honorable Mention on the defensive team. Hunter Fontenot (defensive lineman), Jonathan Fontenot (linebacker), Mikey Laughlin (defensive back), Evan Mire (defensive back) and Dylan Scully (defensive back) each received an HM for their work on the defensive side of the football.
On offense, Point Coupee Central’s quarterback Altonio Johnson took home the MVP honors. Two Trojans made it on the first team. Senior offensive lineman Garrett Manuel and senior running back Ellis Parrott. Parrott was much more than just a running back for SHHS. He also played the roles of receiver and quarterback in a wild cat formation here and there.
On the offensive second team, junior defensive lineman Bevan Dupre makes his return to the all-district team. Dupre had a great year, despite battling a knee injury and having to fight through it. Hudspeth, a two-way player, was selected as a second team offensive lineman.
Three Trojans earned Honorable Mentions for their play on offense. Ceph Guillory (offensive lineman), Wacen Fontenot (offensive lineman) and Wesley Fontenot (quarterback) each received an HM.
A big congratulations goes out to the Trojans who earned recognition on the All-District 5-1A squad.
