Panthers no match for second-ranked Livonia
The Pine Prairie Panthers knew going into the game against the number-two ranked Livonia Wildcats that it would be an uphill climb both ways to pull off the upset. Little did the Panthers know, the Wildcats were not in the mood to remotely allow an upset after playing an un-Livonia-like game against Ville Platte the previous week. The Wildcats showed no mercy in a 52-2 drubbing of the Panthers.
Livonia scored on the opening drive and did not allow the Panthers on the board until a safety in the fourth quarter gave Pine Prairie its only points of the game. The Wildcats drove to the Panther 11 on its first possession and had to kick the field goal for its first score of the night. Bryce Leblanc was good from 27 yards out and Livonia held an early 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats added to their lead with two touchdowns before the first quarter could end. The first score for Livonia came on the offensive side of the ball. A 78-yard touchdown pass from Cee Jay Powell to Stephen Guidry put up six more points on the scoreboard for the Wildcats. The extra point from Leblanc was true and Livonia led 10-0 with 6:27 left in the first stanza.
Livonia would tack on a defensive touchdown later in the quarter. Diante Bridgewater intercepted a Dylan Doucet pass and sped 20 yards for the score. Once again, Leblanc tacked on the extra point and the lead now stood at 17-0 in favor of the Wildcats.
The second quarter would not be nice to the Panthers. Livonia would reach the end zone four more times and hold Pine Prairie scoreless before the first half would end. Malcolm Dedrick would score on runs of five and seven yards to bring the score to 31-0. Cee Jay Powell would scamper 60 yards for a rushing touchdown to raise the score to 38-0.
Powell and Guidry would once again hook up on a 31-yard touchdown pass right before the end of the first half to extend the Wildcat lead to 45-0.
The second half would see the Panthers try to bring some semblance of order to the game. Pine Prairie actually was able to drive inside of Wildcat territory on three separate occasions. In fact, the Panthers drove down inside the Wildcat five yard line twice, but could not come away with any points.
Livonia did score once in the third quarter. A five-yard touchdown carry by Patrick Queen and a perfect extra point extended the Wildcat lead to 52-0.
Pine Prairie finally got on the scoreboard mid-way through the fourth quarter. Livonia running back Trevor Jarreau was tackled in the end zone by the Panther defense for the safety. The score remained 52-2 for the rest of the game.
In the game, the Panther offense could not manage many yards. Pine Prairie rushed for only 58 yards and passed for a meager 75 yards. Dylan Doucet accounted for 82 of the total Panther yardage. Doucet rushed for 27 yards and passed for 75 yards. The Pine Prairie defense allowed 455 yards of offense to Livonia, 283 of those yards came on the ground.
Even with the devastating loss, the Panthers are still in the playoff hunt. Pine Prairie will host the Port Barre Red Devils next Friday with a whole lot on the line. A victory by the Panthers would give them a great chance of making the playoffs for the first time in history. A four-win season would also double the most wins in school history. So, with so much on the line, the Panthers look to the home crowd to fire them up and give them the momentum needed for the biggest win in school history.
