Panthers open district with win over Bulldogs
The following are game summaries for baseball games played this past week by the parish baseball teams.
Sacred Heart
vs. Port Barre
The Sacred Heart Trojans defeated the Port Barre Red Devils 10-0 in a non-district contest in Ville Platte on Monday. Sacred Heart only needed five innings to dispatch of Port Barre. The Trojans scored four in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth and a single run in the fifth in their win. Josh LaHaye faced 10 Red Devil hitters, striking out five in picking up the win.
Keaton Tate led all Sacred Heart hitters going three for four with a double and a run scored. The Trojans are now 11-2 on the year.
Mamou vs.
Catholic - New Iberia
Mamou High School traveled to New Iberia on Thursday to participate in the New Iberia Senior High tournament. The Demons opened tourney play with a 7-2 loss to Catholic High of New Iberia Panthers. Catholic took the early 2-0 lead after the first inning and scored five runs in the fourth. Mamou’s two runs came in the top of the seventh.
Toby Fontenot suffered the loss on the mound, throwing three and one third innings. Fontenot surrendered five runs on four hits and struck out one. Tucker Rougeau went one for two with two runs batted in to lead all Demon hitters. With the loss, Mamou drops to 1-10 on the season.
Sacred Heart
vs. Oak Hill
Sacred Heart extended their win streak to eight games by defeating the Oak Hill Rams 6-0 on Thursday. The Trojans used decisive pitching and a five run fifth inning to dispose of the home standing Rams. Jacob Dupre and Connor Fontenot took to the hill in a combined shut out of Oak Hill.
Both hurlers gave an outstanding performance, allowing only one hit while striking out three. Evan Mire led the Sacred Heart offense going two for three, scoring two runs and plating two runs batted in. Brandon Hudspeth was also two for three with a run scored and a run batted in. The Trojans run their record to 12-2 on the season.
