Parish track athletes give all at state meet

The 2015 All-State Sugar Bowl Track and Field State Meet was held this past Friday and Saturday at Bernie Moore Track in Baton Rouge. Four parish track athletes participated in the meet after qualifying in the regional meets held earlier. All four of the athletes went in hoping to get a chance to walk on to the podium and receive a medal for a top three finish. Even though all four gave tremendous efforts towards that goal, only one of the parish athletes, Pine Prairie’s Dylan Doucet, was able to accomplish that feat.
Doucet competed in the javelin throw in class 3A. Doucet came into the event as one of the top qualifiers from around the state. At the state meet, Doucet was able to lauch the javelin 177 feet even for his best throw of the competion. For his effort, Doucet was awarded third place and a chance to stand on the podium at the end of his competition.
Also competing in class 3A was Ville Platte High’s Antionette Joseph. She participated in the 100 meter hurdles on Saturday. Joseph had an excellent time coming into the race. Unfortunately for Joseph, she tripped on one of the hudles and fell which did not allow her to finish the race.
In class 2A, Mamou High’s Kiajah Wilson participated in the 800 meter run on Friday. Wilson managed to place ninth with a time of 2:43.59.
The fourth parish athlete to compete was Sacred Heart’s Moira Parks. Parks participated in the class 1A long jump. Parks longest jump of the competition was 15 feet four inches, enough for an eight place finish.
Congratulations on these four athletes on a tremendous season.
