Pine Prairie basketball teams get serious with back-to-back contests

The Pine Prairie basketball teams were hoops warriors this past week, as the Panthers and Lady Panthers played on back-to-back nights for some non-district hoops action.
On Wednesday night, both squads hosted the North Vermilion Patriots and Lady Patriots.
The Lady Panthers were able to outlast the Lady Patriots for a two-point win, 32-30.
The Panthers got some much needed power points as they pulled away from the Patriots in the second quarter for a 72-61 win.
On Thursday night, both squads traveled to Plainview to take on the Hornets and Lady Hornets.
The Lady Panthers were no match for the Lady Hornets, as Plainview jumped out to a commanding lead in a 69-32 win.
The Panthers picked up a second win in as many days, as they throttled the Hornets, 83-53.
Here is a summary from the games played on both days.
North Vermilion (G)
vs. Pine Prairie
In a very close contest from the start, the Lady Panthers moved out in front of the Lady Patriots 7-6 in the first quarter.
North Vermilion took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring Pine Prairie 10-6 to take a three point lead as the first half buzzer sounded.
Pine Praire regained control in the third quarter, as four different players tallied buckets to help give the Lady Panthers the 26-25 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers were one point better in the final period to bring home the win.
Pine Prairie was led by Kayla Lazard, who netted 10 points.
North Vermilion (B)
vs. Pine Prairie
What began as a tight game in the first quarter, wound up being a runaway for the Panthers in the end.
Pine Prairie only held a 16-15 lead as the first quarter ended, but poured it on in the second quarter to take a 38-27 advantage as the first half came to a close.
The Panthers outpaced the Patriots in the third quarter by 10 points. North Vermilion tried a late comeback, but the Panthers sealed the win in the final period.
Pine Prairie was led by Douglas Fontenot, who scorched the nets for 22 points. Anthony Payne added 18 points and Sylus Carson chipped in 11 points.
Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Plainview
The Lady Hornets dominated from the start, leading 27-8 at the end of one quarter of play and 50-14 as the halftime buzzer sounded.
With the game in hand, Plainview went to the bench, allowing the Lady Panthers to keep the game from getting too far out of reach.
Sarah Vidrine had a game high 10 points for the Lady Panthers in the loss.

vs. Plainview
Pine Prairie made a tremendous run to start the first quarter and continued that run for a 23-8 lead as the quarter ended.
The Hornets were able to gain some ground on the Panthers in the second quarter, outscoring Pine Prairie 21-15 to cut the halftime lead down to nine points.
The Panthers were not going to let the Hornets gain any more ground as the third quarter opened. Pine Prairie busted the door wide open, extending the lead to 65-43 as the quarter ended.
Pine then cruised in the final quarter to close out the win.
Dylan Doucet pumped in 18 points to lead the Panthers, while Sylus Carson added 17 points in the win
