Pine Prairie drops heartbreaker; Ville Platte falls again

Here is a roundup of games played on Monday and Tuesday night in the parish.
Ville Platte (B)
vs. Northwest
A combination of poor shooting and slow first quarter start allowed the Northwest Raiders an 81-63 defeat of the Ville Platte Bulldogs Monday night.
With the loss, Ville Platte falls to 9-12 on the season and 3-5 in district play. Ville Platte will travel to Pine Prairie this Friday in an important match-up with playoff implications.
Against Northwest, the Bulldogs could not get their offense going in the opening quarter. Northwest took advantage of the sluggish Ville Platte offense and took a 20-7 lead at the end of the period.
Ville Platte got back on track in the second quarter offensively, but was matched basket for basket by Northwest. As the first half buzzer sounded, the Raiders held a 39-25 lead.
The Bulldogs turned to the inside game in the third quarter, feeding center Kelian Semien, who scored 10 of his game high 17 points in the quarter.
Ville Platte managed to cut the lead by five points in the period.
However, Northwest once again took control of the game in the final quarter, outscoring Ville Platte 23-14.
Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Port Barre
Another overtime game, another heartbreaking loss for the Pine Prairie Panthers. This time it was a 66-59 fall to the Port Barre Red Devils.
Pine Prairie now falls to 13-8 on the year and 3-5 in district play.
Pine Prairie looked like a team on a mission in the first quarter, taking a 13-6 lead right out of the gate.
But, the second quarter was not kind to the Panthers, as they allowed 24 points to the Red Devils to find themselves down by two, 30-28 at the half.
The third quarter was a close one, as Port Barre increased their lead to four, out dueling Pine Prairie 14-12 in the period.
Pine Prairie evened the score at 57-57 as regulation ended. However, it was all Port Barre in the extra frame, as the Red Devils out paced the Panthers 9-2 to seal the win.
Douglas Fontenot and Sylus Carson each scored 15 points in the game for the Panthers.
