Pine Prairie holds off Basile in dramatic style
Competing in Class 3A will not be an easy task for the Pine Prairie Panthers. However, Head Coach Chris Guillory has his talented squad playing good ball and racking up wins. The Panthers earned a big win in dramatic style against a tough Basile team.
Pine Prairie beat Basile 65-56 in a rough and tough contest. The Panthers went up 9-8 in the first period. The two teams played a slow tempo in the frame, almost as if they were waiting for the other team to make a mistake. Javon Ardoin hit a three-point shot in the period, giving some momentum to the PPHS team.
The second period was a big one for the Panthers. they out scored Basile 22-12. Douglas Fontenot scored 14 digits in the period and had a great night with 18 points. Pine Prairie’s commanding 33-20 lead was overwhelming for Basile. However, Kendrick Ceasar still managed to put up six points and finish his night with 15 overall.
The visiting Panthers did not let up in the third period. They hit 18 points on the wings of Allen Myles and Sylas Carson. Myles sank seven points and ended the game with 11 points, while Carson pulled down four rebound and hit six points. Carson ended this night with 12 digits. Basile’s Mark Ivory was in it to win it. Ivory scored five points in the period but silently worked his way to 14 in the game.
In the final period, Basile was down 51-33 and didn’t look good. But that did not stop the Cats. They collected a total of 23 points in the period. Gabe Fontenot led the effort with 10 points and he also had a team high of 17 digits.
