Coming off of a big win over inter-parish rival Mamou, the Pine Prairie Panthers will close out their non-district season at home Friday night when they host the Tara Trojans out of Baton Rouge. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
With the win over the Demons, the Panthers are now 2-2 on the year and are looking for a school tying record third win against the Trojans.
Last year Pine Prairie won three games, all before the district season began. Panther head coach Yves Prince knows how important a win over Tara would be going forward for his young club.
“To get that third win again this season would allow us to have some momentum going into district,” stated Prince. “For us, as young as we are this year, a 3-2 record after five games can be a real confidence boost.”
Last week against Mamou, the Panthers scored in all three phases of the game; offensively, defensively and on special teams. Prince was very adamant about keeping that trend up for the rest of the season.
“The way that we run our offense, we are not going to score a whole lot of points quickly,” said Prince. “So, we need help in all phases of the game. If we can get points from the defense and the special teams play, that helps our offense tremendously.”
Pine Prairie’s opponent, Class 4A Tara High, comes into the game with an 0-4 record. The Trojans have lost all four games by an average of 27.5 points per game. Offensively, Tara has only scored 47 points total for the season. However, Prince is not taking the Trojans lightly.
“They have their quarterback returning from last season,” commented Prince. “They don’t really run the ball well, but like to throw it all over the field. We are going to have to contain their quarterback and put pressure on him. We are definitely taking this game serious. Hopefully, we can come out fired up in front of the home crowd and give them a good game to watch.”
