Pine Prairie sweeps Sacred Heart in non-district play
The Pine Prairie Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted the Sacred Heart basketball squads on Tuesday night in non-district play. The Lady Panthers shot lights out in a 42-39 win. The Panthers scored double figures in every quarter in an 80-73 win.
In the girl’s contest, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers jumped out to an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tori Bordelon gave the Lady Panthers the edge in the quarter as she netted nine points. Sacred Heart’s Lady Trojans bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 8-6. However, Sacred Heart still trailed when the horn sounded at the end of the first half, 24-13.
A high-scoring third quarter saw the Lady Trojans outpace Pine Prairie 15-13 to cut into the Lady Panther lead and only trail 38-28. Erin Fontenot chipped in five points for Sacred Heart in the quarter. An 11-5 advantage in the final period for Sacred Heart was not quite enough to overcome the Pine Prairie lead and closed out the scoring for the game.
Leading the way for the Lady Panthers was Tori Bordelon who scored 14 points. Kayla Lazard added 10 points for Pine Prairie. Sacred Heart was led by Natalie Earles, who netted 12 points in the loss.
The boy’s game started with a 24-10 Pine Prairie advantage. Allen Myles dropped nine points to lead the Panthers in the first quarter. Pine Prairie continued to pour in points in the second quarter as they pushed the score to 45-26 at the half with a 21-16 edge in scoring.
Sacred Heart outscored Pine Prairie 20-14 in the third period to cut the Panther lead to 59-46. Mikey Laughlin was a main reason for the Trojan surge as he scored 10 points in the period.
Sacred Heart cut into the Pine Prairie lead once again in the fourth stanza, outpacing the Panthers 27-21. However, it was not enough to overcome the leeway gained by Pine Prairie at the beginning of the game.
The Panthers had two players score in double digits on the night. Allen Myles poured in 21 points and Josh Freeman chipped in 14 points.
Sacred Heart was lead by Christopher Tate who netted 21 points. Mikey Laughlin scored 15 points and Sean Fontenot added 14 points for the Trojans.
