With the playoffs mathematically impossible for Pine Prairie, the Panthers’ focus now becomes winning a fourth game this season and breaking a school record for victories in a season. Pine Prairie will attempt to make that happen tomorrow night as they travel to take on the Eunice Bobcats.
“If we could just put it together on offense tomorrow night against Eunice, I truly believe we give ourselves a chance at taking home the win,” stated Pine Prairie head coach Yves Prince. “With us not being able to make the playoffs, getting that fourth win of the season would go a long way in continuing to build the program. And on top of that, we would pull off a big upset against a very tough opponent.”
Pine Prairie had an outside shot at the playoffs if they could have picked up wins in their final two games.
However, a 12-0 loss to Ville Platte this past Friday took away any hope of a post-season bid for the Panthers. In that game the Panthers only managed 45 yards of total offense, a main area of concern for Prince.
The Panthers have a huge task ahead of them against Eunice. The Bobcats come into the game with a 5-4 overall record and are 3-1 in District 5-3A. Eunice averages 23.2 points per game and gives up 18.4 points per game.
But, Prince knows that the tradition and experience of the Bobcats are a big factor coming into the game.
“Eunice is really well coached and are very disciplined,” commented Prince. “They have been to the playoffs on several occasions and they know that what winning is about. Offensively, they are very good at what they do and really play fast on defense. Coach Trosclair and his staff have always produced a winner. We are definitely going to have to come ready to play.”
