Playoffs continue season for three parish teams
The 2015 LHSAA softball playoff brackets were announced on Thursday afternoon. For three Evangeline Parish squads, this means that their seasons will continue. The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers, the Mamou Lady Demons and the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans all punched their tickets to the postseason and will now make the push to become the best team in the state. For each of these hard working teams, the playoffs are a reward for the time and dedication the players put in during the regular season.
Pine Prairie enters the playoffs as the district 5-3A runners-up with an overall record of 17-5. The number 19 seeded Lady Panthers drew a first round match-up against the Jena Lady Giants out of district 3-3A, and must travel to Jena on Tuesday. The Lady Giants, the number 14 seed and district champions, sport an overall record of 14-7.
The two squads have a couple of common opponents, which includes Marksville and Buckeye. Both Pine Prairie and Jena were able to fifteen run rule Marksville in the regular season and both were able to knock off Buckeye. Game time in Jena is set for 5:30 p.m. at Jena Town Park.
Mamou, the district 4-2A co-champions, were able to earn the number 20 seed in the playoffs. The Lady Demons go into the postseason with an overall record of 12-9. Now, they must go on the road to face off against district rival Kinder High School on Monday. Kinder garnered the number 13 seed in the bracket.
The two squads were very evenly matched during league play, with the teams splitting their two district contests. Mamou defeated the Lady Jackets at home 6-4, while Kinder overcame the Lady Demons 6-1 in Kinder. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Sacred Heart, with an overall record of 13-8, enters the postseason as the number seven seed. The Lady Trojans were the runners-up in district 5-1A. With a top 16 seed, Sacred Heart will have the privilege of hosting their first round game on Monday. The Lady Trojans will battle the number 26 seeded Highland Baptist Christian School out of New Iberia.
The Lady Bears, a district 7-1A participant, hold a regular season record of 8-16 and have lost their last 11 games in a row. Neither team has a common opponent this season. Game time at Lady Trojan field is set for 4:30 p.m.
