Sacred Heart basketball squads lose at Menard

The Sacred Heart Trojans and the Lady Trojans took their games on the road Monday night to Alexandria to take on the Menard Eagles and the Lady Eagles.
Both squads fought the good fight, but unfortunately fell in their contests.
Here is a recap of the games played Monday.
Sacred Heart (G)
vs. Menard
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a early lead, but saw that lead evaporate in a 38-33 loss to the Lady Eagles.
Sacred Heart blanked Menard in the first quarter, establishing an early 8-0 lead.
But poor shooting and a tough Menard defense held the Lady Trojans to only four points in the next two quarters, giving the Lady Eagles a 23-12 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Sacred Heart tried to mount an late comeback, outpacing Menard 21-15 in the final quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Erin Fontenot lead all Lady Trojans with 10 points.
Sacred Heart (B)
vs. Menard
In a very low scoring boy’s contest, the Sacred Heart Trojans fell to the Menard Eagles by a score of 31-28.
Just like in the earlier girl’s contest, the Trojans held an early lead after the first quarter of play, outscoring the Eagles 12-8.
Menard stormed back in the second quarter, outpacing the Trojans 10-6 to even all things up at 18-18 as the first half came to a close.
The last two quarters showed very little offense from either squad.
In the third quarter, Menard extended took the lead by putting up an 8-6 advantage over Sacred Heart.
The final quarter was almost a mirror image to the previous quarter, as both teams could only manage nine points between them, with Menard holding a 5-4 advantage.
Keaton Tate led all Trojans with 13 points on the night. Seth Shipp chipped in eight for Sacred Heart in the loss.
