Sacred Heart boys slip up to North Central
On paper and in a traditional sense, the Trojans of Sacred Heart should not even be able to hang on the same court. However, someone forgot to tell the Trojans that. Because the boys in blue and gold gave the boys in blue and white a game they would not forget. Although SHHS fell 51-43, they made sure North Central will not take them lightly again.
In the opening period, the Trojans dazzled their home crowd by out scoring the Hurricanes 15-11. Brad Fontenot drained three shots and a free throw. He went on to a 12-point night. Sean Fontenot and Seth Shipp each hit a pair of baskets and the Trojans were rolling. Sean Fontenot also finished his night with 12 points.
In the second period, the Hurricanes fired back. and out shot the Trojans 15-11. Sean Fontenot kept things going with another pair of shots and Ben Johnson scored three points also. The two teams wowed their fans, tying the game at 26-26 at the halfway break.
In the third period, the Trojans and Canes engaged in a see-saw battle. SHHS out shot the NCHS boys 15-12 in the frame. Mikey Laughlin, Shipp and Sean Fontenot each put up a pair of baskets for SHHS. Their job gave the Trojans a 41-38 lead going into the final period.
NCHS went off and out scored the Trojans 13-2 in the final period. Sacred Heart simply couldn’t get the breaks in the final period and fell short of the upset.
