Sacred Heart drops a pair; Pine Prairie defeats Ville Platte

The 2016 baseball season is drawing to a close and teams around the area are vying for the best possible playoff position.
The Sacred Heart Trojans did not help themselves out this past week losing to Iota on Saturday and Opelousas Catholic on Sunday in a continuation of a rain out game.
In the meantime, Pine Prairie helped out their cause as they defeated district opponent and parish rival Ville Platte High on Monday afternoon.
Here is a recap of those game played.
Sacred Heart vs. Iota
In a non-district battle at Aswell-Cappell field, Sacred Heart allowed four or more runs in the second and fifth innings in a 10-3 loss to Iota.
Iota took command of the game early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bulldogs added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to add to their total.
Sacred Heart managed to get on the board in the top of the sixth. The Trojans plated all three of their runs in that inning.
After Iota secured the first two outs, Nick LaHaye doubled, Garrick Fontenot singled, Jacob L. Lafleur walked and Caleb Soileau singled to drive in the final run of the inning.
Iota picked up a solo run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
Sacred Heart vs.
Opelousas Catholic
The Trojans took to the field on Sunday to complete a game that was postponed due to rain last Thursday.
With the game restarted in the bottom of the fourth and Opelousas Catholic leading 2-1, the Vikings scored four runs in the final innings to take a 6-5 win over Sacred Heart.
Opelousas Catholic scored three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Sacred Heart answered in the sixth, tacking on four runs to tie the game up.
However, the Vikings plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Sacred Heart falls to 11-11-1 on the season and 0-4 in district play with the loss.
Pine Prairie vs.
Ville Platte
The Pine Prairie Panthers increased their overall record to 11-9 and their district record to 3-4 with a resounding 12-2 five inning run-rule win over Ville Platte High.
The Panthers scored one run in the first, four in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the fifth.
Ville Platte plated single runs in the second and the fifth innings in the loss.
