Sacred Heart girls win season opener

EUNICE -- Sacred Heart head coach Stephanie Fontenot and assistant coach George Broussard led their troops into Eunice Thursday night for a game against the St. Ed’s Lady Blue Jays.
The Lady Trojans outmanned the home team, dressing out 19 players compared to only 10 for the Lady Jays. This led to the Lady Trojans outgunning their hosts for a 10-point win 46­-36.
Sacred Heart (1-0)used those numbers to their advantage. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 12-7 lead as the first quarter closed.
Sacred Heart and St. Ed’s played very evenly in the second quarter, with the Lady Trojans scoring only one point more than the Lady Jays, for a 27-21 halftime lead.
However, Sacred Heart would blow the game open in the third quarter, outscoring St.Ed’s by 10 points to extend their lead to 43-27 as the buzzer sounded to end the period.
St. Ed’s held an advantage in scoring in the final quarter, 9-3, but it was not enough to overtake Sacred Heart.
Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Kara Aguillard with 16 points who shot sevenfor nine from the field.
Gabbie Andrepont was not far behind Aguillard in the points column, racking up 12 points.
Gabby Fontenot lead the way for the Lady Jays, pumping in 12 points on the night.
