Sacred Heart junior high softball captures title
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojan eighth grade softball team competed in the Louisiana Jr. High Softball Tournament at University of Louisiana-Monroe on March 27 and 28. The Lady Trojans went 4-0-1 in the tournament to capture the championship title. In the tournament, Sacred Heart outscored their opponents 35-2.
With the championship win the Lady Trojans finish the season 14-0-1 and have qualified for the State Games of America in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 31-Aug 2, 2015. Here is a rundown of the games played at the tournament.
Sacred Heart vs.
Ouachita Christian
The Lady Trojans scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was not enough to fight off the Ouachita Christian Lady Eagles in a 1-1 tie. Sacred Heart scored when Whitney Tate crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Lady Trojans collected three hits in the game from Tate, Aubrey Foret and Sydnie Soileau. Tate and Olivia Clark combined on the hill for the tie. Tate threw three complete innings, allowing two hits, while striking out six. Clark went two complete innings, giving up one run on two hits. Clark struck out two and walked one.
Sacred Heart vs.
Church Point
Sacred Heart needed only three innings to run past Church Point 17-0. The Lady Trojans scored four runs in the first, four runs in the second and nine runs in the third to blow away the Lady Bears. Whitney Tate and Olivia Clark both went three for three with three runs scored to lead Sacred Heart at the plate. Meredith Brou was two for two with two runs and two runs batted in. Clark and Lauren Shipp took to the hill to combine for the win. Clark threw two innings giving up zero runs on zero hits and struck out three. Shipp went one inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits.

Caldwell
Game three of the tournament found the Lady Trojans down 2-1 at the end of one inning of play. However, Sacred Heart rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 5-2 win. The Lady Trojan collected six hits in the game, including a double by Aubrey Foret. Whitney Tate was one for one at the plate, while Foret, Karlie Fontenot, Emilyse Bergeron, Meredith Brou and Lauren Shipp were all one for two. Clark and Tate combined for the win on the mound. The duo held Caldwell to two runs on five hits, while striking out nine batters.

North DeSoto
A five run third inning helped propel the Lady Trojans to a 6-0 win over North DeSoto in game four. Sacred Heart pushed the sixth run across in the top of the fifth to help seal the victory. Aubrey Foret led all hitters, going two for three with a double and a run batted in. Olivia Hernandez was one for two, with a double, a run scored and two runs batted in. Olivia Clark threw one inning surrendering zero hits on zero hits, while striking out two. Whitney Tate finished the game, going four innings, allowing only one hit.

Ouachita Christian
In a rematch of a previous game, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans took on the Ouachita Christian Lady Eagles. Game five for the Lady Trojans was the championship game. Sacred Heart wasted no time, scoring two runs in the first, en route to a 6-0 win and a championship trophy. The Lady Trojans added one run in the third and three runs in the fourth to take care of the Lady Eagles. Whitney Tate threw six complete innings of shutout ball to pick up the win. Tate only allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out seven. Sydnie Soileau was two for two with two runs scored and one run batted in to lead all Sacred Heart hitters. Olivia Hernandez went one for one, scoring two runs and plating two runs batted in.
