Sacred Heart Lady Trojans stay on playoff track

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans travelled to New Roads on Tuesday to take on Catholic of Pointe Coupee. Sacred Heart was seeking to improve their playoff power ranking before the regular season closes. In the last meeting between the Lady Trojans and the Lady Hornets, Sacred Heart completely dominated 55-15. Tuesday night was almost a mirror image of that contest as the Lady Trojans took a 54-22 win over Catholic.
Hoping to get off to a good start, Sacred Heart put together a really nice offensive first quarter. The Lady Trojans knocked in 18 points in the period and pulled ahead of the Lady Hornets 18-7 before the stanza came to a close. Continuing the momentum of the opening quarter, Sacred Heart was able to once again net double digits in the second period. A 12 point performance allowed the Lady Trojans to extend their lead to 30-14 at the close of the first half.
Defense was the name of the game for Sacred Heart in the third period. The Lady Trojans suffocated the Catholic offense and held the Lady Hornets to a paltry one point. With a 13 point offensive performance in the quarter, Sacred Heart took a 43-15 lead into the final stanza. All that was left was to close out the game. The Lady Trojans controlled the final stanza, outscoring the Lady Hornets 11-7 to seal the victory.
Leading the way for Sacred Heart was junior sensation Gabby Andrepont, who poured in 20 points. Senior Natalie Earles chipped in 10 points on the night. The Lady Trojans now moves to 12-11 on the year and 5-2 in district. Sacred Heart will host the St. Edmund Lady Blue Jays next Tuesday in the final regular season game of 2015.
