CROWLEY -- Notre Dame extended its win streak to 19 games with a methodical win over Sacred Heart, Ville Platte, Friday night at Gardiner Stadium. The Pios scored on offense, defense and special teams with a 62-6 win.
The Pios needed just two plays and 43 seconds to get on the scoreboard. Collin Kirsch took a handoff around the left side, turning it up the left sideline with help from a Justin Guidry block and running through a defender at the fifteen for a 47-yard touchdown run. John William Lamm added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Sacred Heart fumbled it away to the Pios less than a minute later. Jacob Link recovered at the Trojans 23-yard line.
Three plays later, Steven Zaunbrecher crashed off right guard for a five-yard touchdown run. Lamm booted the PAT for a 14-0 lead.
Trojans quarterback Wesley Launey picked up a first down with a 20-yard completion on the next series. Two plays later, Launey was intercepted by Jordan Owens who returned 42 yards for a defensive score. Lamm made it 21-0 with the extra point just five minutes into the game.
Notre Dame once again held Sacred Heart to a three-and- out. The Pios promptly drove 61-yards for another score, as Sam Hoffpauier ran it in from 16-yards out. The PAT was good and Notre Dame now led 28-0.
The second quarter began with another Notre Dame scoring drive from their 38-yard line. On play five of the drive, Thevis hit Lejeune for a 22-yard scoring strike and Lamm’s extra point made it 35-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
After holding the Trojans offense on the next series, Notre Dame was able to force a punt. Pioneer return specialist Cameron Nelson received the Sacred Heart punt and raced 54-yards for the score. With the extra point, Notre Dame held a 42-0 lead.
The Pios second wave fumbled to Sacred Heart at the Notre Dame 37 and the Trojans attempt to get on the scoreboard with 34 seconds left in the half backfired. Cornerback Garrett Cormier intercepted a pass and ran it back 93-yards for a 49-0 halftime lead.
The second half brought more of the same for both teams, as Notre Dame scored twice more in the third quarter.
Sacred Heart was able to score late against fresh Notre Dame uniforms. Trojans QB Launey completed passes of 18 and 11 yards to Daniel Scully and tailback J.T. Harper scored on a two-yard run with eight minutes to play.
