Several Parish players named to all-district teams
Another successful year on the high school softball diamond for the squads from Evangeline Parish has translated in a number of individual honors. Several players from across the parish have earned post-season honors in their respective districts. For those players, the everyday grind of a softball season has reaped the accolades that were truly deserved.
In class 1A, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans earned a spot in the LHSAA Fastpitch 56 State Softball Tounament. The Lady Trojans finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-10 and a league record of 3-3. With that league record, Sacred Heart earned the district runner-up spot. The Lady Trojans reached the state tournament with wins over Highland Baptist and St. Ed’s. Sacred Heart lost to Mangham in the quarterfinals in 13 innings by the score of 5-4.
Four deserving young ladies earned first team all-district honors for the Lady Trojans. Elizabeth Soileau, Gabbie Andrepont, Kara Aguillard and Courtney Vidrine were all named to the top team in district 5-1A. Soileau earned her spot as a pitcher, recording 11 wins and eight losses. Soileau struck out 76, walked 27 and had an ERA of 3.45. Andrepont hit .480 with 19 runs batted in and scored 21 runs from her catching position.
Aguillard, named the first team’s third baseman, hit .329, recorded 12 runs batted in and crossed the plate 11 times. Rounding out the first team selection for the Lady Trojans is Vidrine. Vidrine, an outfield selection batted .342, scored 15 times and recorded 10 runs batted in.
Earning second team honors were second baseman Logan Shipp and outfielder Laura Beth Fontenot. Receiving an honorable mention nod was outfielder Sarah Soileau.
In class 2A, the Mamou Lady Demons fought their way to a spot in the playoffs with an overall record of 12-10. The Lady Demons were district runners-up, going 8-2 in district 4-2A competition. Mamou exited the playoffs after a first round 4-0 loss to district rival Kinder.
The Lady Demons were fortunate enough to have six well deserving players named on the first team all district.
Amber Manuel, Lauren Soileau, Madison Trahan, Kelsie Mayeaux, Logan Thomas and Kourtnie Deshotel were selected to the first team. Manuel was named the district’s Co-MVP as a pitcher after going 6-2 and holding opponents to a .140 batting average. Manuel also struck out 73 and batted .526 with 18 runs batted in, while scoring 11 runs. Soileau, the Lady Demon second baseman hit .323 with nine runs batted in and eight runs scored, while swiping three bases. Trahan was named first team shortstop, batting .394 with an on base percentage of .457 and recorded four runs and four runs batted in.
Mayeaux was named as a first team outfielder after she hit .464 with six runs and four runs batted in. Both Thomas and Deshotel were picked as utility players. Thomas hit .485 plating 17 runs batted in and clubbed two homeruns. Deshotel knocked in six runs batted in, scored eight runs and batted .481.
Mamou had two players named as second team all district selections. First baseman Maggie Soileau and utility player Katiee Bertrand earned their honors for tremendous play all district season.
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers rode tremendous play from a number of underclassmen to the second round of the class 3A LHSAA playoffs. Pine Prairie finished the season 18-6 and 8-1 in district. The Lady Panthers were the district runners-up of district 5-3A. After defeating Jena 13-6 in the first round of the playoffs, Pine Prairie was eliminated by eventual state runners-up Kaplan High School.
Pine Prairie placed six players on the all-district first team. Alexis Hammond, Regan Reed, Julia Chaddrick, Sabrina Fontenot, Tori Bordelon and Shaina Boutte gained nods on the first team. Hammond earned her spot on the hill for the Lady Panthers, with a record of 14-3. Hammond struck out 64, walked 42 and had a 1.96 ERA. Reed was named to the third baseman position, batting .330 with 14 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. Chaddrick, a first team outfielder, hit .414, scored 42 runs, knocked in 19 RBI and was a perfect 22 out of 22 in the stolen bases department.
The remaining three Lady Panthers were all named to the first team as utility players. Fontenot hit .322 with 22 runs batted in and 26 runs scored. Bordelon batted .431 with seven doubles and one triple, while scoring 35 runs. Boutte, Pine Prairie’s everyday first baseman, hit .468, while knocking in 26 runs and scoring 27 times.
The Lady Panthers also had two players named to the second team. Outfielder Macy Harvey and utility player Sara Tate were honored for their play throughout the year.
Ville Platte High had one person selected to the second team in district 5-3A. Pitcher Reygan Jagneaux earned the spot for her hard work and never say die attitude. Jagneaux threw every inning for the Lady Bulldogs this season.
Honorable Mention slots went to Whitney Ledoux, Abby Fontenot, Loghan Franks and Page Tezeno.
